Breath of Fire

Breath of Fire is a meditation known for cleansing the body. Involving rapid deep breathing it may cause blackouts. However, theoretically performing the exercise for three minutes purifies all the blood in the body.

It takes several minutes to prepare for the mediation. First identify the direction in which your chi flows. Do this by looking at the crown of your head. The hair grows either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

If your hair grows clockwise put the left leg on the ground. Arch it so it mimics the direction of hair. Then cross the right leg over the left leg. If your hair grows counter-clockwise, place the left leg on top of the right leg with the right leg mimicking the direction of hair.

This meditation has only one body position which is sitting on the floor with the legs crossed. Lean slightly forward. Keep muscles relaxed and chin up.

In addition, do not use crystals. Crystals are like batteries. You can charge them, but if they are not already charged they will suck you in. Since this meditation may cause blackout, if you pass out and enter an unconscious state, binding to the crystal could cause problems.

Begin by taking three deep breaths. Inhale and exhale through the mouth. Go back to regular breathing and adjust the body to where it seems symmetrical and in balance. Relax hands with palms up on the knees. Choose a chakra hand position if desired. Breath of Fire activates the chakra and has a long lasting affect. If this is your first time performing this meditation, I suggest starting with the red chakra and go up the chakras in order.

Ready to begin, breathe deeply, inhale through the mouth and exhale through the nose. With each breath intensify how much air is entering the lungs and envision fresh air filling the lungs, while old air is forced out of the body. With every breath air enters the lower part of the lungs and diaphragm. Fill every millimeter of the lungs and diaphragm. Take time with every breath. It also takes time to force all of the used or stale air out. It eventually feels like a balloon getting filled with air and then someone steps on the balloon.

After doing this for a minute or so it is time for the cleansing part of the Breath of Fire. First, exhale completely. Let go, air quickly enters the top parts of the lungs. Then force the breath out just as quickly.

In away, it is like simulating hyperventilation. Only use the lungs, not diaphragm. You are forcing a great deal of air in and out of the lungs; however, speed is the essence. Do it as quickly as you can while taking in as much air as possible. The body will naturally control the motion, but you have to consciously force a large amount of air in and out of the lungs.

Time passes slowly during this exercise. Have someone time you or set a timer. Time begins when after a complete exhale and taking the first quick breath. Remember to breathe in through the mouth and out through the nose.

Breathing in through the mouth collects energy. Breathing out through the nose inhibits all of the energy from flowing out of the body. This means the good energy stays in the body. It makes people light-headed and feels great. The long lasting affects are wonderful. You could do this once a year and be more than fine.
