Orange Chakra: Swadhisthana

The orange chakra is known for its relation to the intestines and the spleen. However, its position closer to the navel actually ties into the reproductive organs in stimulating sex drive. Do not let this information fool you, because the chakra is closely related to success.

Location: Between the pelvic bone and navel.

To activate this chakra, the large toes touch each other on the tips. You may either lay down or sit during the meditation. The right hand rests in the left hand below the naval with the thumbs almost touching. The hands should be arched as though picking up water.



Looking at the color orange; repeating the mantra "kleem," or listening to music written in "D" assists in stimulating the chakra. Use a nonmetallic string to suspend stones approximately and inch underneath the navel on the stomach or back.

Opening this chakra can lead to a higher sex drive. It works as well in improving a woman's sex drive as a man's. However, the most valuable asset to having a well balanced orange chakra is in the way it provides stamina to reach goals and become successful. It also improves vitality and kinesthetic creativity related to clothing, crafts and pottery. If you feel sluggish or as though the world is winning and wish to be more externally powerful, opening the orange chakra is a great way to get back in the game.

Violet Chakra: Sahasrara

The violet chakra connects people to the universe. Since the red chakra connects us to the world; the violet chakra needs to be in good health in order to accept new universal energy into the body and feed the soul.

Mantra: Lam, Om, all other mantras related to chakras

Location: Top of the head or crown

This chakra is most easily accessed sitting on the ground. Make sure the tailbone is touching the ground. The red chakra acts as an anchor and encourages the violet energy to flow down through all of the chakras.

Direct your knees outward, so the bottoms of the feet connect. The bottoms of the feet align so the toes and heels touch. The thumb, index and little finger press in together, making pyramids pointing at the crown, chest and universe. The middle and ring finger are folded down so the second knuckles touch. Hold your thumbs close to your chest, while maintaining at least an inch of distance. Point the index fingers towards the jaw. After meditating a few minutes the connection between the crown and index fingers will strengthen. Readjust the direction of the index fingers to point to the crown.



Violet objects, clothing, focal points and classical music written in "B" assist in obtaining this chakra. However, usually people obtain this chakra when their eyes are closed and meditating in silence. Think about energy building around the crown of your head. All images in your mind become violet.

The mantra is repeated differently than the other chakras. You may either repeat "lam" or "om" while exhaling or repeat all of the mantras beginning with the red chakra first. This would be something like: am, vom, ham, yam, ram, vam, lam or kreem, kleem, hoom, hreem, aym, shreem, om.

When using stones, balancing the stone on your head, could work; however, I suggest wearing a loose fitted cotton or yarn cap to keep it in place. Rest the stone near the crown of the head.

The violet chakra assists in achieving a greater sense of self in relation to the world and the soul. It invites new energy to flow through the body and refreshes the mind. Simulating the violet chakra results in that special calm feeling so many people desire.
